LANGDON C. CHAPMAN
Langdon joined the firm in 2004. On behalf of the firm's clients, he engages in commercial litigation throughout the Hudson Valley and currently represents municipalities and municipal boards on a variety of zoning, planning, and local governance matters for municipalities in Orange, Sullivan, and Delaware Counties. In addition, he also engages in election law and landlord/tenant law.
Cases of note include his successful defense of a local law regulating large scale wind turbines in the Catskills. Western Catskills Preservation Alliance et. al. vs. The Town of Stamford; Supreme Court, Chenango County Index No. 2007-x463; his successful representation of the Town of Mamakating Planning Board in multiple lawsuits brought against the Town over approvals issued to the Yukiguni Maitake Manufacturing Corporation of America's mushroom factory. Basha Kill Area Association vs. Planning Board of the Town of Mamakating, 46 A.D.3d 1309; 849 N.Y.S. 2d 112 (3rd Dep't 2007). He has successfully argued before the Appellate Divisions in New York's Second Department in Brooklyn and Third Department in Albany and engaged successfully in motion practice before the New York State Court of Appeals.
From 1999 - 2009, Langdon served as Counsel to the State Senate's Standing Committee on Housing, Construction, and Community Development. In that capacity, he advised committee members of the Senate on matters relating to real property taxation, housing finance, tax credits, bonding, construction liability, and State housing policy. He also represented the New York State Senate in meetings of the Governor's Small Cities Advisory Committee.
Previously, Langdon was elected to two terms on the Hunter Town Board (Greene County) and served two terms as Deputy Town Supervisor of the Town of Hunter. He also was appointed by the Chairman of the Greene County Legislature to serve on the Greene County Youth Bureau's Advisory Board, and served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of that Board. He is a graduate of Siena College and Western New England School of Law. Langdon resides in Campbell Hall, with his wife Allison, a teacher, and sons, Matthew and Brendan.
